She then joined the Seattle Reign FC now OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League NWSL that was formed following the WPS was disbanded. Rapinoe became one of the club's top scorers, and later became the Captain of the squad. She scored goals or assisted in a number of them which helped the team win. In 2016, she played in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. In Rio she and the U.S. lost in the quarterfinals. The first time Rapinoe played was at this tournament in the FIFA Women's World Cup in the year 2011. Rapinoe's contributions enabled her to enable the U.S. Women's World Cup to win two consecutive titles in 2015 and 2019. The year after, she was appointed cocaptain. At the 2020 Olympics at Tokyo Japan was delayed until 2021 because of COVID-19 pandemic Rapinoe scored two goals during the bronze medal game when she helped the United States defeated Australia by a four-to-3 score.
